Just a week after Facebook acquired them for $19 Billion, WhatsApp has announced that they will be venturing into voice calls soon.
Specifically, WhatsApp CEO told TechCrunch that their 330 million active users (daily) will be able to make use of “voice communication” soon, though Jan Koum did not specify whether it’ll be just voice messages (which it kinda already does) or voice calls like Skype or Viber. Neither was there any mention about this feature being free or paid-for.
The feature will first come to Android and iOS, before rolling on in Q2 2014 to “some Nokia and BlackBerry phones.”
I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this. Hopefully WhatsApp will allow users to select not to be called?
