Facebook Messenger for Android & iPhone Updated: Brings Voice Messages & Free Voice Calling

Facebook’s standalone Messager app for iPhone and Android just got an interesting new update today.

Facebook Messenger Free Voice Calling Messages

The new version brings in the ability to send voice messages to your Facebook friends, which is a new addition to the previous text or image based messages that were allowed before. You can send short messages back and forth quickly just by tapping on the plus button on the side of the text box, similar to how you’d add an image or emoticon to the conversation. Then you just press and hold the record button to record your voice message, and let go when you’re done to send the message. Unfortunately it wont let you review your message before you send it, incase you made any mistakes in it but it does have more of a walkie talkie vibe to it this way, heh.

The iOS app update also brings in the ability to make free voice calls to each other over Wifi, or even a network data plan, so that you can call any of your Facebook friends for free. For now it’s apparently only limited to Canadian users though.
