Ok, this is HUGE news for all you Android fans out there. Canonical, the company behind the world’s most famous and widely used open source Linux distro – Ubuntu, has made it’s whole OS(well, mostly) available for all Android dual core phones. It works just like the Motorola Atrix lapdock which turns the Atrix into a docked PC when connected with the right accessory. But, Ubuntu has one advantage, it will work on all the dual core Android phones unlike the lapdock, which works only on Motorola phones.

Here is a video demo of the Ubuntu “app” for Android.
It is truly awesome that the UI completely morphs to the Unity UI that is omnipresent on the Ubuntu desktop environment. You can manage all the stuff that you do on your Android phone, just on a different UI. You can install Ubuntu apps, open Android apps, or make it your own Media center while connected to your HDTV. The integration with core Android services like connectivity, messaging are all fabulous with the Ubuntu Unity UI. All the apps open in a Windows that mirrors your Android display, and guess what? It morphs to a completely different UI when you connect it to your TV, just like Nokia Big screen, it’s purely for media consumption.
What we are seeing here, is truly revolutionary, considering that most of the Android devices that launch today are dual core smartphones. They might become your one and only PC after all. We just need more docks for our dual core Android smartphones, eh? ;-)
Now, we shall patiently wait and watch what others have to offer to one-up this.
Microsoft and Apple, your turn.
