Mobile World Congress is just around the corner, and one thing that we’re particularly interested in, is Microsoft’s announcements about the future of Windows Phone. There are rumors of Windows Phone 8 Apollo coming along, and a more budget-phone-friendly version of WP called Tango.

Since Windows Phone is a new platform, they’ll be wanting to capture that budget marketshare, and with Nokia’s help, there’d be no stopping them. According to WPDang, we might see Tango Windows Phones in China as soon as next month, and from manufacturers like HTC, LG and ZTE in addition to Nokia.
The Chinese version of Tango will apparently not have the Xbox Live, Facebook and Twitter integration of WP7.5 but will integrate locally relevant services instead. Microsoft has already allowed devices in China to use Baidu search instead of Bing, so this isnt a huge surprise, technically speaking.
Personally, I’m a bit annoyed to see a less-capable version of Windows phone being released for lower hardware spec’d devices. Not a fan of fragmentation y’see. Still, Microsoft hasnt announced anything yet, so I’ll try to reserve judgement until that happens.
