Microsoft unveils new WP Metro inspired logo for Windows 8

Microsoft just officially confirmed their new branding for the upcoming desktop Windows 8 operating system today, with a new logo that’s very inspired by the Windows Phone Metro design.

The new logo is supposed to be a window instead of the usual flag that was traditionally found in previous versions of Windows. Microsoft’s Sam Moreau stated “We wanted the new logo to be both modern and classic.”

As you can see in the logo above, it now uses flat colors with clean lines in the same Metro design, and will change color depending on what the core theme color used in Windows 8 is. “When you change your color, the logo changes to reflect you,” said Sam. The Windows 8 Consumer Preview is due on February 29th, so personally I cant wait to see if Microsoft has taken a note out of Apple’s OS X Mountain Lion and incorporated more items from their mobile OS in their desktop operating system.

What do you think? Like the change? One of the commentors ‘DjiXas‘ stated they should have atleast stuck to the traditional Microsoft Colors, which kinda looks pretty okay too.

I like single color. Apple went from multi-colored apple to a single colored one.
