WSJ – Apple testing 8 inch iPad

While Steve Jobs himself denounced the idea of a smaller iPad, it appears Apple might be in the process of testing out just such an iDevice according to the Wall Street Journal.

Citing anonymous officials at some of the company’s Asian suppliers, the WSJ reports that Apple has shown their suppliers designs for a smaller slate equipped with a display that is about eight inches in size but has the same resolution (1024 x 768) as the current iPads.

Many manufacturers have prototypes that are tested but never released so who knows how many sizes of iPads Apple might be checking out internally. A smaller (read: cheaper) iPad would definitely help Apple combat their rivals 7 Inch tablets, like the Kindle fire and Samsung Galaxy Tab. Then again, Apple could have sold a cheaper iPhone for the same reasons, and havent.

Guess we should know this March 7th.
