Siri uses Noise Reduction hardware on iPhone 4S, makes official iPhone 4 Siri port unlikely

Apple’s digital voice assistant on the iPhone 4S, Siri, apparently uses special noise reduction hardware called earSmart, which is built right into the Apple A5 processor, as since older devices dont have that, makes an official port of the software, unlikely.

The technology was created by a company called Audience, which uses an earSmart-less chip in the iPhone 4 too, but the iPhone 4′s chip was designed to reduce noise when speaking into the microphone whereas the iPhone 4S chip is designed to use noise cancellation for a wider field of sound.

Apple even threw in an extra infrared sensor the optimize the Siri experience on the iPhone 4S. Rumor are the new iPad and maybe even the mythical new Apple TV might have Siri onboard thanks to the new chips, but it seems like if you’ve been waiting for an official port of Siri to older iPhones, you’re out of luck.
