IDC has released their numbers showing that Apple has passed LG, to become the third largest mobile phone maker in the world.

Apple jumped into the third spot globally from the fifth spot last quarter thanks to a record-breaking quarter of shipments. That represents the Cupertino-based company’s highest-ever ranking on IDC’s Top 5 global mobile phone leaderboard. [...] Device sales in the U.S. and Japan were particularly strong given extra sales days in the quarter and carrier distribution.
That’s pretty huge considering that those numbers represent overall mobile phone sales, not just smartphone sales. Nokia is still number one with 113.5 Million phones shipped in Q4 2011. Apple grew 100 percent year-on-year, versus Samsung who’s at number two right now, which only grew about 18 percent.
That being said Apple has no iPhone till later this year, so I’m thinking they wont overtake Samsung anytime soon, eh?
