Nokia unveils their public policy on conflict minerals

Apple’s been in the news lately for their bad labor practices and the human cost of manufacturing their products, so there’s no better time for companies to let buyers know they care. Which is what Nokia did this week, releasing a public policy to assure folks of their stance of conflict minerals, with products using metals like tantalum, gold, tungsten, and tin sourced frequently from Congo.

Nokia stresses that they dont procure materials directly, but require their supply chains to be traceable down to even the mine if needed. Nokia also participates in industry-wide initiatives like the EICC-GeSI Extractives Work Group and the US State Department’s Public-Private Alliance for Responsible Minerals Trade. Nokia already outlines this stuff on their website but it’d make sense that they’d want to post about it. More info at the Nokia Conversations blog post.
