Geezas! The guys at Pocketnow just managed to get their hands on a ton of info about the next iteration of Windows Phone that’s coming around.

Apparently the got their hands on a video (not shown) where Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore, Vice President of Windows Phone talks folks through the new features that will be seen in Windows Phone Apollo, aka Windows Phone 8.
It seems Apollo will have support for “multi-core processors” (dual cores and quad cores I’d imagine?) to better position Windows Phones in terms of specs versus the latest Android phones and the iPhone 4S. There will also be support for more screen resolutions, for a total of 4 (currently resolution is limited to 800 x 480 on Windows Phones). There’s support for microSD card slots coming as well, along with my personal favorite feature: NFC support. Internet Explorer 10 for mobile will also get a proxy feature similar to Opera’s mobile browser to reduce data consumption, along with a new app built into the OS to track that data usage.
There will also be a ‘heavy overlap‘ between the ‘kernel, networking stacks, security, and multimedia‘ aspects of Windows Phone and the Desktop version of Windows 8 so that developers would be able to ‘reuse, by far, most of their code‘ to create WP8 apps.
Best news of all? No more Zune desktop app, but it will be replaced by another stand alone app.
Now there’s a chance this could not be real, but it sure sounds like it’s on track. Maybe Microsoft will announce some of this at Mobile World Congress later this month? More info over at the source below.
