We had a Black iPhone 4S and a White iPhone 4 lying around, so I figured why not do a gallery?

Since I, myself had been confused about what that ‘subtle difference‘ between the two similar form-factors is in the antenna’s design, here’s a quick little gallery of the iPhone 4S versus the iPhone 4.

Front View:

As you can see, they look basically identical from the front.

Same 3.5 Inch Retina Display touchscreen, a lone menu button at the bottom, and a front facing camera, proximity sensor and earpiece at the top.

Right View

On the right side, you have the slot of the microSIM card.

The first ‘subtle difference’ is here on the right side, where the antenna on the iPhone 4S has an extra notch at one side, which is absent on the iPhone 4.

Bottom View

Both have the same proprietary Apple dock connector at the bottom, with a speaker grill and microphone grill on either side.

Word of warning: Catches a LOT of dust over time.

Left View

On the left side, you have the ringer-mute switch, and the volume keys.

You’ll notice that there’s a notch in the iPhone 4S antenna, which is not there on the iPhone 4.

Top View

At the top you have the 3.5mm audio jack and the power/screenlock button.

You’ll notice the other ‘subtle difference’ here which is the antenna at the top of the iPhone 4S does not have the notch that the iPhone 4 antenna does here.

Back View

At the back you have the same design of the lone camera, and led flash, with the Apple logo in the center and ‘iPhone’ written at the bottom along with device info.

The iPhone 4 has a 5 Megapixel camera with 720p HD Video recording capabilities.

The iPhone 4S on the other hand, has an 8 Megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording.

And that’s about it. The iPhone 4 design versus the almost-exactly-the-same iPhone 4S.

Considering buying an iPhone soon? I’d definitely recommend springing for the 4S, unless you’re on a really tight budget. A couple months after the announcement, do you still think Apple should have gone with a completely new design for the iPhone 4S? Or is the iPhone 4 form factor close enough to perfect?
