First Microsoft Apps Suite for Nokia Belle released

Back in August 2009, Microsoft & Nokia formed a global alliance to design, develop & market mobile productivity solutions. In February 2011, they took this alliance a step further joining forces to build the new ecosystem to rival Apple & Android ecosystems.

More than two years after they formed the alliance, the first Mobile Productivity Solution has finally be made available for Symbian devices.

This is the first of the two updates which are going to be released for Nokia Belle, as has been announced by Nokia Conversations back in September, and it includes -

  • Microsoft® Lync™ 2010 Mobile – for cost efficient IM, presence, audio and web meetings on-the-go.
  • Microsoft® PowerPoint® Broadcast – quick broadcast of presentations directly from PC to mobile.
  • Microsoft® OneNote™ – rich note taking with images. Syncs with Microsoft® SkyDrive®.
  • Microsoft® Document Connection – single view to documents stored on mobile, including email attachments as well as documents on Microsoft® SharePoint® 2010 sites.

The update is available via Nokia Suite or Nokia Software Updater as a 28 MB package.

This is the first of the two updates the alliance is going to release for Symbian devices. A second update is supposed to be released soon, which will bring -

    • Microsoft OneNote sync with SharePoint (in addition to SkyDrive)

as well as adding Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as native applications for the first time outside the Windows platform.
