Samsung ‘really excited’ about waterproof coating for phones

Looks like waterproof phones might be the cool new thing in tech, according to report by Pocket-lint, suggesting some major brands might be using the technology in their upcoming devices.

HzO, a product by ZAGG, the guys that made the invisible shield, demonstrated the superhydrophobic waterproof coating on phones at CES this month, said Samsung is “really excited” about the technology and that they have spoken with Apple about possibly making a waterproof iPhone 5. HzO says that they “expect HzO to be in next season’s phones,” so there’s no knowing which brand might be using the waterproof tech in the end.

There’s similar waterproof films like Liquipel, Aridion, and NeverWet in the market, which are alternatives, and the Motorola Xoom 2 along with a couple other Moto devices like the Defy, have already been launched with waterproofing added to both the outside of the device and the internals by third parties. Apart from being waterproof, the Superhydrophobic film that covers the parts has a surface that is difficult for water to adhere to, so it just slides off. The surface is also more resistant to dirt as well. More info at the source below.

Fixed – HzO is a product by ZAGG, not a company. Thanks for the heads up @Diogonev
