Sony Ericsson talks GLONASS support in Xperia phones

Sony Ericsson posted on their mobile Developer World blog confirming their 2011 Xperia smartphones and the new Xperia S and Xperia Ion will all support the Russian GLONASS positioning service in addition to GPS.

GLONASS [Wikipedia link] is run by the Russian Aerospace Defense Forces, and similar to GPS. With SE using information from both systems, their devices might get a more accurate fix of your location, where GPS might struggle. Sony states that their devices equipped with Snapdragon S2 and S3 chips will fully support both GPS and GLONASS so if you have a 2011 Xperia phone, you have an edge over other GPS devices.
