Nokia Link for N9 Updated to support Windows XP and Vista

Nokia Betalabs just updated the Nokia Link software for PC, to support Windows XP and Windows Vista.

From the Betalabs blog post:

Nokia Link now runs on a computer with Windows XP or Windows Vista (in addition to Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, and Mac OS X 10.7 Lion), which is one of the most requested improvements to the program. Being able to copy mobile content to and from smart playlists in iTunes and Windows Media Player is another useful addition. And because people were looking for an easy way to remove content, such as music, from the memory of their Nokia N9 phone, we wanted to make sure that this would be an easy thing to do with Nokia Link. Plus, we’ve done a lot of polishing and fixed a bunch of errors that had been found in the previous version.

Many of you have also asked if it would be possible to sync your contacts and calendar with Nokia Link. This is not part of our plans, because Nokia N9 has made it simple and effortless to sync over the air. Here’s how.

Incase you havent heard of Nokia Link before, the desktop app lets you sync and connect with your Nokia N9.

With Nokia Link v1.2, you can:

  • Copy media (music, photos, videos) between the phone and computer (PC/Mac)
    • copy media from the phone to the computer, and  from the computer to the phone
    • copy media between the phone and the following applications: Windows Media Player, Windows Live Photo Gallery, Zune, iTunes and iPhoto
    • entire albums, playlists, or even folders can be moved to Nokia Link and all the new media files in them are then copied to the phone
    • delete music, photos and videos from your N9. Click on the capacity bar or select ‘Options > Make space…’ to delete content
  • Backup & restore
    • includes: contacts, messages, calendar appointments, call history, account information
    • doesn’t include: music, photos, videos
  •  NOT supported:
    • Bluetooth connection (only USB supported)
    • contact, calendar, SMS sync (*
    • phone software update
    • phone as a modem (tethering)
    • send/reseive SMS
    • play music files
    • manage contacts
    • map loading

*) NOTE: Nokia Link doesn’t support contacts and calendar sync, but Nokia N9 offers you many other ways to do such syncing. N9 has phone to phone sync support for bringing contacts from your old phone to N9 and for some phones also calendar can be synced. N9 supports Mail for Exchange, Gmail or POP/ IMAP capable mail servers. With MfE not only the email is synced, but you can also sync contacts and calendar for services like Outlook, Windows LiveTM and Gmail.

As always, available to download over at Nokia Betalabs.
