The Indonesian government wanted to setup an RIM server within the country so that they would engage in lawful interception of content. Unfortunately for them though, RIM’s not budging on the issue.

Heru Sutadi, from the Indonesian Telecommunication Regulation Body, stated:
“Because RIM has not been cooperative, it is possible that we will soon end BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) and BBM service. BlackBerry therefore, would just be like other cellular phones … With the condition as it is now, we warn that the country’s users to be cautious about using BlackBerry because the data exchanged is not safe or cannot be guaranteed of its safety.”
Some of this might also be, because RIM chose Panang, Malaysia instead of Indonesia for their newest BlackBerry factory. As you might already know, RIM’s servers in Canada route all BlackBerry data, from the browser, e-mail, or BBM, which adds a degree of security, but also means governments can’t peep into that info.
RIM have until the end of December to get their server in Indonesia set up, or get shut down in the country.
