Nokia Lumia 800 Firmware Update Now Rolling Out

As was rumored, Nokia has started rolling out a firmware update for the Nokia Lumia 800, bringing charging improvements, better display switching in bright light, Voicemail notification improvements and Improved audio quality.

Microsoft Exchange 2003 users will also see improvements in replying to emails. The update comes right after the 7740 windows phone platform update last week, and should fix issues where the Lumia 800 would take up to 30 mins to start up from a low battery state, which is an issue we experienced. There are supposed to also be various power efficiency updates which should make the battery last much longer. The update is rolling out over the next two weeks so if it’s not available for your device right now, it should be soon enough:

Not everyone will get the update at once – the number of simultaneous downloads has to be limited – but it should be delivered in all the initial launch countries over the course of the next two weeks. The software will be downloaded through Microsoft Zune.

Mac users, remember, you can update using Windows Phone Connector for Mac. To check for an update, head into your settings and look under ‘phone update’ to see if there’s anything available.

Unfortunately there seems to be no mention of Wifi Hotspot being added to the Lumia 800 in this update. Nokia did mention though that “a further update is planned for early 2012 to deliver more improvements to the software” so maybe that will only come next year? Pity, I tether with my phone a lot and the lack of that ability on the Lumia 800 is somewhat annoying.
