Nokia India has been replying to peoples tweets about the price of the Nokia Lumia 800, and it’s apparently an extravagant Rs 29,999. Holy. Crap.

And that’s just the Best Buy price, so the MRP might be even more expensive. I loved the Lumia 800 and all (hands-on here) but Geezas that price is insane. You could get the better spec’ed Samsung Galaxy S2 for less than that. Heck for Rs 3000-ish more you could get the Galaxy Note or the Motorola Razr, all of which are Dual Core beasts boating way more features.

Nokia India has a habit of launching devices at insane mind-numbing prices, and then bringing the price down eventually over the next few months. While that strategy might have worked in their favour in the past when they were popular in India, I dont see why anyone would want to spend that much cash on a single core 1.4Ghz Windows phone made by the brand today. Just for reference, the original N95 was launched at Rs 40,000 here back in 2007.
Dont get me wrong, I love the Lumia 800, and I think it’s a fantastic piece of hardware. But it’s just. not. worth. Thirty Thousand Rupees.
[Thanks for the Tip @NikhilPai!]
Crap ! prices in india setting a new Level , which can't be Justified .. similar to Apple iphone 4s Pricing [insane ] ... Cut the Price and get back to the Business @ ;)
I agree with you CJ , Nokia always taxes the early adopters , same here in Pakistan although we get a better price than ROW still it's advisable to wait for a couple of months for the prices to settle .
What will be just as interesting is the Lumia 710 pricing. If it turns out to be 24,000, I'll be really disappointed. Nokia knows India, and they know the customer. The pricing is somewhat a deal killer. It is a brilliant phone, but I don't know if we could say the same of the 710.
The thing is, the Samsung Omnia W which we just reviewed yesterday, is a phone with better specs than the Lumia 710, and will be around the 15K mark by the time the 710 launches. If this is any indication, me thinks Nokia India is in dire need of a reality check.
Completely agree. A friend just mentioned today that the Omnia W seemed to be a better buy than the Lumia 800, just because of the price.. I love the feel of the Lumia 800 in hand (insert that's what she said here, CJ style), but that doesn't justify the price.
Ha @ Samsung Galaxy S2. The Android bandwagon is now overated. Tell me how many times a day do you charge the phone? Thousands of apps, none of them usable.
1) Phone has an extremely awesome User Interface and looks moreover it is the most user-friendly Touch phone i have ever used.
I think you are just overreacting about the price , 29,999. Is a affordable price for this phone and I am ready to buy one at this price. The phone looks so amazing and i used the phone the touch is extraordinary.
Agreed. I was seriously considering buying this once it was announced at Nokia World and the disappointment at it not having a FFC or a bigger screen died down. But there's no way in hell I'm paying 30K for this. I hope the price reduces sometime soon. But I'm not too hopeful - of it reducing and of it reducing by a substantial margin. What worries me now is that if this costs 30K, then how much will the 900 cost? And are they really NOT going to stay as close to / go below the 20K barrier with the 710?
