As you might already know, Sony bought out Ericsson’s half of Sony Ericsson for a cool €1.05 billion, making the joint venture now solely owned by Sony.

Sony had many reasons for the buyout, hoping to unify their smartphone lineup with their entire catalog of home and personal devices, and eventually for the growth of their patent portfolio. As you can imagine the branding will soon change to reflect it, by mid-2012, from when the Sony Logo will appear on all devices instead of the SE emblem. No word if Sony will continue to stick with the ‘Xperia‘ name for their Android lineup, or what other changes might happen, but hey I guess we’ll know next year.
