Camera Update for Nokia N8 brings Continuous Auto Focus, 30 FPS Recording & Revamped UI

Damian Dinning, Nokia’s Super Awesome dude behind N8′s Camera & the reason why Nokia is the best when it comes to Photography & Video Recording, has always been active on Twitter talking to the users & listening to feedback. As soon as the N8 was released, two features topped the requests made by the users – Continuous Auto Focus & Recording videos in 30 FPS. Also, a quicker access to the settings was requested, the current UI required extra clicks to reach the different modes.

Damian had promised updates to the N8 camera app & Video recording long time back, but they were dependent on Symbian Anna. Now that Symbian Anna has been released for the N8, Nokia has released a Camera Update for the Nokia N8, via BetaLabs.

It is interesting to see that Nokia chose to release the update as a separate application instead of bundling it in the OS. Damian explains that why in a post detailing the improvements Symbian Anna brings to the N8′s Camera as well as announcing this update at Nokia Conversations – “The simple answer was that we really wanted to go further with the Nokia N8 camera but didn’t want to tie it to a future software update release”. Genius! No need to wait for Nokia to release the major software updates after delaying it for months!

What does this update brings?

  • We tweaked the UI, to provide camera aficionados faster access to essential camera controls
  • We improved the quality of recorded videos, by cranking up the video recording speed to 30 FPS and adding the heavily requested continuous auto-focus.
This camera update is for the Nokia N8 with Symbian Anna. If you do not yet have Symbian Anna, you can check for it athttp://www.nokia.com/softwareupdate or from your device Tools -> SW update.
