HP just announced that they will be discontinuing WebOS device development, including the recently released TouchPad and all upcoming webOS phones.

In addition, HP reported that it plans to announce that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones. HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward.
The announcements comes as part of a notice that HP is purchasing a software company called Autonomous and its PC division. So much for Palm’s baby, eh? All that’s left now is iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7. And uhh… Blackberry’s OS which is shifting to qnx. We dont cover WebOS here on ZCJ (for obvious reasons), so while we’re sad to see another Mobile OS put to rest (especially one that bought along its fair share of innovations), we arnt really too surprised by this one. Reports were that stores like Best Buy in the US had huge numbers of TouchPads unsold, which might have been the tipping point for HP.
Any Palm/WebOS users in the house? Sad to see the OS go?
