According to an interview with Stephen Elop and Finnish newspaper Helsingen Sanomat, Nokia tried to tout MeeGo to rival manufacturers back when it was considered it’s next main Smartphone OS.

Unfortunately though other manufacturers were afraid that Nokia had too much power in MeeGo, and were hence hesitant. According to Nokia CEO Stephen Elop:
“We discussed Meego with HTC, RIM, Samsung, LG, and Motorola. One manufacturer was fairly interested in Meego and the others have their own plans, and they were not particularly interested in Meego. They were afraid that Nokia had too much power in Meego”
As you might remember, the Linux Based MeeGo OS was going to be Nokia’s high-end smartphone OS of choice for the future, which would see Symbian pushed downwards to lower budget devices. That changed when Nokia announced that they would be choosing Windows Phone as its primary smartphone OS. Intel was dismayed by the action but began to look for another partner for MeeGo, but LG has been the only manufacturer who has recently shown an interest.
