iPad vs iPad 2 – What’s new
So, a lot of peeps have been asking me abut the iPad 2, many of them owners of the Original Apple iPad.
Just incase you’re wondering what’s the new iPad 2 all about, here’s a quick rundown.
All together, the main new features are:
- The Front facing VGA camera
- The Rear facing camera (less than 1MP, 720p)
- A Built-in Gyroscope
- A new Magnetically attachable case (an optional buy) which has a microfibre cleaning surface.
- HDMI output adapter (also an optional buy).
Otherwise, Dimensions are changed.
The thickness has shrunk to 8.8mm from 13.4mm on the original. The weight is also changed, with the Wifi model being just 601g (from the 680 on the Original), and the Wifi+3G model down to 613g (AT&T, the Verizon Model is 607g) vs the 730g of the original.
The Screen is the same, having the 9.7 Inch LED Backlit IPS 1024×768 resolution screen of the original but is definitely much brighter. The graphics processor might also be changed but that is not confirmed yet, with the Original using a PowerVR SGX 535 chip.
The Processor has changed, with 1Ghz Single Core A4 chip of the Original replaced with a new Dual-Core 1Ghz A5 chip.
Storage options are the same, with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models. Even the Wifi and Bluetooth are the same as the Original (with 802.11 a/b/g/n and 2.1 + EDR).
The pricing options are the same, starting at $499 for the 16GB Wifi model.
So the screen resolution didnt improve, and there’s no new super fast Thunderbolt connector onboard, but it is much thinner and lighter, and more powerful. Dont forget the Original iPad’s gotten a $100 price cut too, which makes it even more desirable.
