Blackberry Messaging Service coming to Android and iOS?

According to a report by BGR, Research in Motion is planning to bring Blackberry’s BBM Messaging service to Android and iPhone iOS.

According to ‘multiple trusted sources‘ the service will first come to Android, and then iOS. No details on pricing yet, or a launch date, but the service might be free for all users, or they might charge a one time fee.

To be honest, with services like WhatsApp becoming immensely popular and basically doing the same thing but on Multiple Platforms (Nokia Symbian, Android, iOS and even Blackberry itself), it would make sense for RIM to do something like this. But then again, isnt BBM basically the main (if not only) reason people buy Blackberry devices? What do you think?
