The Nokia 5230, 5233 and 5235 variants got a firmware update today, to version 40.0.003 (with v40.6.003 for the 5235). Their previous firmware was v21.1.004.

The 5230, 5235 and 5233 both have UDP (User Data Preservation), so while its always a good idea to backup all your data before the firmware update, none of your programs or data should be affected with the update.
Remember you can update using the device’s OTA (Over-The-Air) feature, or if you prefer you can download Nokia’s Software Updater application to update your device on your windows PC. Right now the Update seems to be only available via NSU.
(Note: From what we’ve heard, the Firmware update is only available via NSU right now (not Ovi Suite) and sometimes takes a couple days before it gets OTA)
If there’s no new firmware detected for your device yet, it might be because it hasnt reached your region product code yet, or maybe your device is carrier branded. It should roll out to all product codes eventually though.
The Changelog (via A2Phone) is:
Data package content, corrections or changes :
* Nokia 5233: unable to create new profile, once the handset is factory reset model 5233
* Nokia 5230: N5230 cannot auto update on stock webpage
* Nokia 5230: Cu cannot transfer music from PC to the device
* Network Reconnection request fails in flash after two three attempts.
* High current consumption when Maps is in foreground and background , drains battery quickly
Have you updated your 5230, 5235 or 5233 yet ? Notice anything new with the firmware update that we might have missed ? Do let us know in the comments y’all !
