Motorola’s Android Honeycomb tablet is going to be launched at CES next month, and as such we’re seeing a couple more leaks.

Now we know that the Tablet is going to be called “Xoom” but wont have 4G LTE support. However, AndroidandMe says it will be able to access the 4G LTE network using an expansion modem.
Our sources say that Verizon will be selling an optional LTE modem that will plug in to a PCI express expansion slot found on the tablet. This would make sense because not everyone lives in Verizon’s 4G coverage area (it’s only 38 markets) and most people will not want to pay the $50-80 monthly fee for 4G data.
I never even knew you could have external expansion modems for LTE. This could mean several things though. Could other Motorola devices connect using an external modem? Are other manufacturers going to follow the same strategy? LTE Modems are usually huge, because of the giant module they have to accommodate so expansion ports make sure devices can be as sleek as the iPad and more versatile.
