Samsung Wave Review: Conclusions

We finish our review of the Samsung Wave today, and with that it’s now time for our conclusions post.

The device comes loaded with goodies and so does it’s retail box. We liked that fact that Samsung were thoughtful enough to include a MicroSD converter for the memory card so that you could easily.  We are very pleased with the device and it’s build quality. The feedback from the hardware keys feel nice and it is extremely useful to have a dedicated camera button. We were blown away by the responsiveness of the software, and much credit can be given to the speedy processor for carrying this out with ease. The software and hardware really come together and give us such a live user experience.

There were a few things that we would have liked fixed. We did encounter an error in the messaging application.

It happened when the messaging application was already open and we tried to open a new message. Maybe this will be fixed in a future firmware update.

Maybe we are just adamant, but with an interface so close to perfection some things just stand out. On taking a photo with quick view enabled you cannot tap on the dedicated camera button to return to the camera application. You have to hit the virtual on screen back button to go back and take another photo. It is only a little annoying especially when you come from Nokia devices that allow this on even simple phones.

The games were really spectacular, and a special mention has to be given to Edge. Samsung has done an amazing job with this game and it is very addicting. Full marks to Samsung Wave in this department, although it could use a couple more titles. It has the potential to be a very capable gaming phone.

Music player and Internet browser were all well integrated into the OS. We loved multiple tabbed browsing and the speed of the browser.

The lock screen does so much more. With message and missed call alerts to even music player shortcut controls it really does it all. You can even press and hold the lock button to unlock the device.

The lack of a trackball in this device is no drawback. The text field allows cursor movements by sliding across any part of the screen. It gets the job done although we did hit a couple of unintended links in the internet browser. Internet browsing in long pages was also a breeze with the available side bar scrolling. You don’t need to flick your finger again and again.

No led notifications was a bummer but it is something we can live with. The home button does not have any shortcut attached to it if you double tap it.

Overall the interface is extremely consistent, fluid and smooth. You will find the same responsiveness and fluidity in any application on the phone. All animations look really good and there is absolutely no lag. The phone is a real joy to use.

Conclusion:

Rating: ★★★★☆

Priced at Rs. 17,308 here in India, this phone is a real steal. It gives you everything you need. An outstanding internet browser, a brilliant movie and music player and a capable gaming device. The lack of quality applications may be a small turn off for some people but it will definitely change in the future. We would definitely recommend the Samsung Wave S8500, it is an outstanding device and gives you your money’s worth.

Being a Wave user I must admit your conclusions are really spot on. This is by far the fastest smartphone I have ever had. I have had some HTC smartphones and they really do not compare to the Wave. After getting used to the system software it truly is a smart phone. You van adjust almost anything to your liking. As for your comments regarding the fixes that need done, I totally agree on them! Especially the message regarding the Messages is already in use is simply annoying! Great conclusions!
