One of the few complaints with the Nokia N900, is that most things on it are done in landscape mode. Ofcourse, this is by design (according to Nokia atleast), and in the last couple firmware updates they have managed to sneak in portrait mode for a select few apps, like the web browser and dialing screen yada yada.
However, released today on the Extras-Dev catalog, there’s a new app called “Rotatedaemon” that weighs in at just 9kb, and allows complete 360 degree screen rotation on the N900.
The app uses the built-in accelerometer, hence the screen orientation depends on how you’re holding your N900.
And there’s nothing like using your N900 upside down to completely confuzzle you.
Transitions are really quick and dont have any fancy effects to them, which is how we prefer it to be honest.
All you have to do is install rotatedaemon and it immediately activates. The only way to deactivate it, is to uninstall it unfortch. It’ll try to rotate anything, so the result isnt always too pretty. And rotating some applications, especially those that rotate themselves, might cause your phone to reboot.
More info over on the MaemoTalk Thread.
