According to Nokia Conversations, the Nokia N900 Firmware PR 1.2 (V10.2010.19-1) firmware has apparently finally been officially released, and should begin rolling out to devices today. It’s previous software version was 1.1.1 (3.2010.02-8).

The update brings a host of new features such as video calling, facebook chat integration (first Facebook chat phone from Nokia with integrated Facebook conversations), customizable menu, portrait mode, pre-installed Qt4.6 promising forward-compatible 3rd party apps for MeeGo. The Official Changelog so far is :
First up – new games join the veritable arcade already on offer in Ovi Store. Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster, Zen-bound, Angry Birds (level pack), Sygic, Kroll, Weatherbug, and GoGadget are all available to keep you entertained. Important to note though that Ovi Store will do a full switchover this week Thursday, May 27, so these games and other for-purchase apps will show up then.
Next are the improvements to communication. Email has been improved with the ability to accept or decline an event invitation right there in your inbox, and Facebook IM chat has also been bundled in. The release also brings with it video calling, allowing users face-to-face chatting anywhere.
An additional update you will be pleased to hear about is portrait browsing on the internet is a-go on the N900. Ovi Maps also gets the update treatment with changes to the UI, improving the experience of finding your way around. And finally, there’s also a change to the menu system UI with the first level now customisable.
Be patient if you can’t see an update yet, as it will come to your time zone at some point in the next few days as it will roll out region by region.
This update can be installed over the air by users. To install the new firmware on your device using Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA), launch the Application Manager and select “update”. You might want to use a WLAN/Wifi connection and avoid doing this over GPRS/3G if you’re on a limited DataPlan, since the FOTA update is reportedly quite large. OTA software updates is available now in UK, other countries have been scheduled to get it tomorrow.
An update via OTA usually retains all your data and settings, but just incase it’s always advisable to make a backup of your data, just incase.
You could also use Nokia Software Updater. Make sure your N900 has a Sim Card inserted and is on the “General” profile. I havent done this on the N900 yet though, so I’m not entirely sure if an update via NSU retains all your data, or wipes it out.
You might want to uninstall any apps from, or disable the extras-devel first, too. Always remember to make a backup of your data, just in case.
Also worth noting, is that Nokia has said that while the N900 will not get a full scale commercial MeeGo upgrade, they will still support the core MeeGo software.
