The Nokia N900 gets Overclocked to 1Ghz

Over on the Maemo Talk forums, the buzz has apparently been about getting the Nokia N900‘s Cortex A8 processor running even faster than it already does.

I mean, lets face it. Maemo 5 certainly isnt a slouch in the speed department. But take that 600 Mhz (clocked by default) processor and hike it up to 800 Mhz ? 1 Ghz ? Oh yeah, that’s when things get crazy.

As awesome as this might be, there is a word of caution to go along with it. Overclocking does take a toll on your battery life too. Stability issues might appear here and there.

But hey, as long as it’s faster right ? Apparently the N900 runs quite fine at the 800 Mhz mark. More info over on the Maemo Talk forums.

I am just a bit worried about the Battery life if Nokia N900 touches 800MHz or greater. Do you really think that underclocking the default CPU use would actually eradicate the issue with Overclocking?

battery life may actually be increased... cpu by default underclocks to 250mhz when not in use.... new custom kernel sets that to 125mhz which may possibly outweigh the small time spent at 900mhz in relation to battery use
