My Ovi Maps Story

I was stuck in a bit of a predicament the other day. One that saw me starting up Ovi Maps out of pure instinct.

As you might have read before on ZCJ, I’ve been very much dependent on Ovi Maps in Delhi, since I moved here 4 months ago. Honestly, it has made living here so much easier for me, Mister I-dont-know-how-to-speak-the-local-language.

One of those situations happened the other day, when I was done with work for the day and tried to get an Autorickshaw back home. Rickshaws are the main mode of middle-class-person public transport here in Delhi, with Taxis being way too pricey and buses being way too random. Hey, atleast for me.

Oh no, the fun job of haggling with a Rickshaw driver on the fare, to get me home, is just part of my Daily routine.

Unfortunately though, after 30 minutes of waiting for one to pass by, and a quick Google later, I learnt that there was an Auto-Rickshaw strike in Delhi that day. Great !

Luckily a friend of mine was passing by an area near my place. We wouldnt dare get any closer, for fear of the immense traffic on this day-of-no-rickshaws.

So because of that, I was dropped somewhere nearby my apartment. Atleast I was told that. I still had no idea where I was ! A quick (ish) start up of Ovi Maps on the N97 Mini, and it told me exactly where I was. None of the road names on the screen made sense to me, but hey atleast I knew where I was.

A quick navigate over to my apartment (that I had saved or “bookmarked”), choose “Walk to” and I was on my way. Gotta love Free Navigation y’all.

This is my Ovi Maps Story. In Video form, below :

Needless to say, as I’ve mentioned countless times before. Ovi Maps really helps when you’re in a new city. Especially if you dont speak the local language. It’s comforting to know you have a virtual tourguide of sorts, in your pocket. Crazy Lady Robot Voice and all !
