Maemo 5 SDK Release 5 reveals more Features Coming Soon

Forum Nokia released their Maemo 5 SDK (Release 5) the other day, and Maemo Forum user ‘MohammadAG” has found that there are a couple new improvements and features coming. Maybe in the next Firmware PR1.2 Update for the Nokia N900.

First up, it looks like the virtual Keyboard has gotten a slight facelift. Nothing too drastic though.

You can Clear your Device settings again, an option that was mysteriously removed from the N900 a firmware update ago.

This allows you to reset your device to factory settings.

You can rearrange the Menu Icons now (No “More” Option either).

The Web Browser has also gotten a slight redesign UI-wise.

There’s a new “Back” button that takes you back to the previous page. Also apparently the Gecko Engine was updated, so the browsers a lot faster and smoother now when it comes to rendering and scrolling.

Portrait mode is activated by default now, and there’s an “Enable Rotation” option in the main settings menu.

You can set the function of the “User Keys” to Control Volume only, or Zoom in/out only in the browser.

There’s a new icon for “User Guide” on the main menu.

Also apparently the Media Player now has a “Play” button on the bottom right, instead of the moving bars that was present before.

When you try to change your background or theme, you now have the option of downloading more from the Ovi Store.

The File Explorer also now allows you to Share any sort of file type via bluetooth.

And lastly, you can now enable the Video call option in contacts. You can also disable SMS’s to landline numbers and set a default voicemail number.

Not too shabby eh ? The N900 sure is getting better every day. Remember we have our full review of the Nokia N900 if y’all want to read up on it.
