How about Ubuntu Mobile 9.04 on the Nokia N900

We’ve seen the Nokia N900 run versions of Windows, Android, and even OSX apart from it’s Maemo 5 OS.

And now you can add Ubuntu mobile 9.04 to that list.

An aspiring young fella by the name of ‘Ashton‘ has managed to get Ubuntu Mobile running on his Nokia N900 and it seems to run pretty well !

From Ashton’s Twitter account :

i managed to day to get Ubuntu mobile on n900. That would be MER with lxde desktop on top of it. Ill post instructions later. For now, enjoy the screens and Video.
N900 really has a large potential. the Operating system runs as fast as maemo itself and is natively installed on my SD card. It has support for wifi, charging, touch etc but no support for phone. so you cant make calls in mer. Just reboot into maemo when Done.

Check out the video below to see it in action.

Apparently, the Ubuntu mobile OS is booting from an SD card, so it wont replace the default Maemo OS. When you switch the N900 on, you can choose which OS to start up, from the Boot Menu that appears.

More pictures over on Ashton’s Twitpic account.

Gotta say, I am lovin’ the fact that people are able to boot up so many different OS’s on the N900. Gotta love the open-ness of it all, y’all.
