Nokia Messaging for Email Updates to Version 10.2

Nokia Messaging for Email got an update today, to version 10.2.

The update brings several improvements, such as support for the ‘Destinations’ Feature in S60v5 Touch devices and various bug fixes.

Here’s a bit of the Messaging Blog post to explain what’s new :

We are rolling out an update for Nokia Messaging for Email over the next few weeks – the first piece being a client update for S60 5th edition devices. This update is available as “Nokia Messaging 10.2” in the Software Update application on your phone.

To answer what will likely be a popular question – “but, what about my device”, we are going to be rolling this client for S60 3rd edition on messaging.nokia.com in the next few weeks and we will let you know when it’s available on this blog. We’ve also got some server-side features in the works that we’ll be discussing shortly. Nokia Messaging is truly a service: continually evolving and adding features.

Here are the highlights of the client release:

  • Localized in 38 languages
  • Support for Destinations on S60 5th edition devices
  • Improvements to on-device-setup wizard
  • Deleted items folder now automatically empties itself, faster client deletions
  • Various bug fixes

We’ve also heard many S60 5th edition users’ feedback about Destinations support, which we also added to this release. Using your devices’ Destinations feature, you simply add your preferred WiFi access points to the Internet Destination (or any other Destination that you configure), and Nokia Messaging will automatically switch to it when it’s available.

We also have made several improvements to the setup wizard, based on analysis of where users typically encounter errors during setup. Another area we’ve made improvements is in deletion handling – the ‘Deleted Items’ folder will now automatically clear emails older than three days that it previously kept, and deletions are snappier in the client in this release. Finally, we’ve fixed a few nagging bugs including restoring “Send with Nokia Messaging” from the Gallery, and you can now properly attach files from the N97’s memory card.

You can grab the v10.2 by going to your Software Update application on your S60v5 (like the N97 Mini, N97, 5800, etc) phone and letting it check for the update.

Like they mentioned, if (like me) you havent gotten the update yet, dont worry too much, it’s still being rolled out to devices and regions. They also mentioned it’s coming soon to S60v3 devices, so us non-touch device owners still have hope.

No probs Nokia. We s60v3 owners are now mentally prepared for unequal treatment. Although I had purchased E75 coz I was made to believe e-series devices will atleast get some more honourable treatment in respect to Nokia messaging. Anyhow there's limit for hope too. I was little disappointed when Nokia messaging - social networking was announced & flagship e-series E75 wasn't compatible as that was too for s60v5. After that I was shocked to learn free navigation offered on inferior E52,E55 & E72 but E75 again missed out. Infact it has been a trend to ignore us & after all these days, I really care little about you & your phone's unlike before. Bla bla....bla. Tired of giving feedbacks to Nokia. Do something now or day is inching closer on us ! PS: CJ don't let this comment disappear. ;)

This is not anything new again from nokia. They neither listened to us regarding n-gage nor they are willing to justify the reasons for literally dumping all s60v3 specially fp1 users. It seems the strategy is to force people to buy latest devices for getting latest software!
