Nokia Social Hub is a nice little application on the Nokia Booklet 3G, that combines all your Social Feeds into one area, to make it easier for you to keep a check on them.
While this might sound great on paper, the application though, still needs a bit of polishing.
Here’s a little about it.
(Note: This is an overview of version 1.0.334 of Nokia Social Hub. Features might improve in a later version)
Now when you first start up Nokia Social Hub, it will ask you to add your “services”. You get to choose from 3 such services, them being Flickr, Facebook and Twitter. You can also show your text message inbox if you’ve put a Sim Card into the Booklet 3G.
I added all three in, and watched as Social Hub began to pull in all my feeds.
As you can see in the screenshot above, all your updates are pulled in, in one column, with a tiny icon at the bottom to let you know from which service the update is from, along with a Timestamp of when it happened.
If the update is from Twitter, you can reply or ‘reTweet‘ the message (cant seem to favourite it though). And if the update is from Flickr or Facebook, you can comment on it. You can also ‘like‘ any Facebook updates.
Your Text Message Inbox updates though, allows you to reply to that person.
It’s worth noting that you can only input one account per service. That is, one Facebook or Twitter or Flickr account. No support for multiple accounts yet unfortch.
At the top of the window, are icons to show you which services are being pulled in, along with a “refresh” icon to pull in more updates. I wasnt able to find out how to get automatic updates going (which you’d think might be a feature of this app), so I ended up clicking that icon a lot.
Also at the very top, are three tabs called “New Update“, “New Text Message” and “View“.
“New Update“, as you can guess, lets you send an update to your Social Networks (Facebook and Twitter). You can choose which service by clicking the name. Twitter users might find it annoying that there’s no character count on this screen though.
Once you’re done, click “Send” and the update appears in your timeline.
“New Text Message” as the name suggests, allows you to send a text message. Ofcourse, this is provided you’ve inserted a SIM card into your Booklet 3G.
This screen has a character count, so I was surprised that the Twitter Tab didnt.
The last tab at the top of the application is “View“, which lets you view any pictures or videos or links that are contained within the updates in your stream.
Images and Video appear in a nice presentation-ish UI, which allows you to go through them all. Not sure how useful this ‘feature’ is though. “Links” is basically the same, but for any weblinks. Although we couldnt get it to work right.
Ofcourse if things look too cramped up in that one column, you can click the Multiple columns icon (looks like parallel lines) at the bottom, to switch to the Multi-Column view.
This view separates your updates according to the service. No Flickr updates in this “mode” though.
Also at the bottom, is a settings icon that takes you to the various settings of Social Hub.
A nice little setting on the “Notifications” tab, lets you choose which twitter users (that you follow) to get updates from.
This means you could use Social Hub as a filter of sorts, if you have too many Twitter contacts.
Here’s a short video to show you a bit more of how Nokia Social Hub works on the Booklet 3G, and its various features.

So as you can see, Nokia Social Hub is a very VERY basic social network update aggregator, that pulls in status updates and info from your social networks. It’s nowhere near the likes of popular Twitter apps, and it’s missing out on a LOT of features that I’d need in a desktop Twitter Client.
I was wondering why Nokia didnt release this app for Download (for other PC Users). Well now I dont, because it’s just not ready yet.
At the end of the day, it’s just a nice app that just happens to be there on the Booklet 3G.
You’ve read the overview. What do you think of Nokia Social Hub on the Booklet 3G ? Does it have potential ? Let us know in the comments y’all !
