Thanks to AllAboutSymbian, we’ve come to know that the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic just got a firmware update to version 40.0.005 . Its previous firmware was 31.0.101.
The 5800 does have UDP (User Data Preservation), so while its always a good idea to backup all your data before the firmware update, none of your programs or data should be affected with the update.
The update has only come to certain Asian & European Product codes at the time of posting, but no doubt it will be avilable across all regions and product codes soon.
Remember you can update using the 5800’s OTA (Over-The-Air) feature, or if you prefer you can download Nokia’s Software Updater application to update your 5800 on your windows PC.
There’s no official changelog yet, but we’ll post one if we do come across one. So far reports are coming in about Kinetic Scrolling, New “Contacts Bar”, Automatic change to QWERTY Keyboard Rotation (on text input menus), integrated Ovi Contacts and a more Responsive UI overall. No doubt there are a lot of stability and bug fixes included in the update too.

hiiiiiiiii friends v 40 is beautifulllllllllllllllllllllllllll. I have update my phone but its possible only after change my product code . I lost my warranty but my phone is very stable and ultimate changes.
Nokia 5800 Firmware v40 Changelog: Removed the alphanumeric keypad in landscape version, now when we turned the phone alphanumeric portrait changes to full qwerty.That'll do :)
Yeah, tried the horizontal tilt and it worked. Thanks dude!One other change users may have issues with is picking calls or stopping/snoozing alarms while phone is locked. You swipe in the direction of the arrows, you don't touch. Users take note.Thanks.

Had the no full qwerty aswell, turned the phone horizontal and the option turned up, turned it on and was back to normal, makes it so that if you have it verticle it runs what ever you set there and full qwert when you switch to horizontal. Got my themes working by formatting the micro SD and then switching off all the various menu's home screen.... can't remember which ones or what order but that got theme's working again
i upgraded to latest firmware 40.0.005. I am not getting full qwerty keyboard option while writing message. Is someone facing the same problem?
I installed it, going into the theme's causes the phone to reboot, home screen button's are ugly compared to the last version, ovi store stopped working and connecting to the internet stopped working aswell. Performed a factory reset and still they all fail... stay away from it !
Ah I'm afraid you cant downgrade your firmware. What's so bad about this update though ?

Wow, great news buddy, I just checked on my 5800 but it is still not available for my mobile. But I hope i will get it..... great.... kinetic scrolling is finally available.I will write the complete changelog if my mobile get updated.
Since upgrading to this firmware i find that the phone sometimes freezes/crashes when receiving incoming calls - I am able to receive the call, just unable to hang up and clear the screen etc after- only rebooting seems to get me back on track... wished i'd never updated to this firmware...... though now since going up to v50.* I've not noticed it happen.... cheers hth :O)
