One of the many highlights of the Nokia N97 Mini, is it’s Widget Based Homescreen.
First seen on the Original N97, this homescreen can be customized with Widgets, and personalised according to your liking.
Here’s more about it.
The N97 Mini Homescreen consists of Five Movable Homescreen Widgets (and one movable Clock/Calendar Widget that cannot be removed).
As you can see, Widgets can consist of purely offline content (like your favourite contacts, or favourite app shortcuts) or Online content Widgets like Facebook, Accuweather, etc.
Online Widgets need to connect online (via a network dataplan or Wifi) to send/receive data. With this in mind, you can set your Homescreen content to “Online” or “Offline” mode.
Offline, as the name suggests, is when you dont want your widgets using your dataplan to transfer information. One new “feature” of Widgets on the N97 Mini, is that most widgets onboard have an “Offline Indicator” to let you know that they’re in Offline Mode.
Like the Indicator on the Accuweather and Facebook Widgets below :
Since this depends on the Widget Application itself, this “feature” is now also being seen on the Original N97 too, provided users update to the latest version of the widget.
The N97 Mini also comes with a lot more onboard Widgets and apps compared to the Original N97.
As you can see, that’s quite a list.
And if you prefer to look at your wallpaper instead, all you have to do is swipe your finger across the screen to hide all your Widgets.
This feature, including a lot more others, are pretty much identical to the Homescreen Original N97. So instead of writing it all here again, do head over and check out our detailed “The Nokia N97: All About the Widgetised Homescreen” post.
Its worth noting that the Widgetised Homescreen on the N97 Mini, although identical to the Original N97, seems to be a lot more stable. Of course this could be thanks to the newer versions of the various Widgets installed on the device.
Here’s a video to give you a better overview of the Widget based Homescreen on the Nokia N97 Mini :

Hey CJ! I have a question, cause I am a bit curious what's the black theme you use on the N97 mini, I have seen it before on that E72 you have. Is that a default Nokia theme or some theme maker creation?
Heya Mike ! That's the Nokia Music Explorer App : http://zomgitscj.com/nokia-music-explorer-app-h...The Widget lists the last 4 albums/songs from a particular Genre or Artist of your choice :)
Hey there ! The Theme is called "Just Black" by Tehkseven : http://zomgitscj.com/just-black-by-tehkseven-gr... It's one of my favourite themes that I usually install on all my Black colored devices :) Looks great on them !
