Nokia quietly slipped out a new “Nokia Music Explorer” app on the Ovi Store today.
The App weighs in at just 552kb and is at version 1.0.
Nokia Music Explorer is a nice little application that keeps a check on the Nokia Music Store, and alerts you about the top 4 latest songs/tracks from your favourite Genre, or Artist.
This is so you can always get the latest tracks of your favorite music, as soon as they hit the store.
When you first start up the App, it connects to the Nokia Music Store via your dataplan (Wifi, 3G or GPRS, etc).
Once connected, you have to select your Nokia Music Store Region.
Obviously, if the Nokia Music Store isnt in your country yet, it wont be listed.
After that, you have to select your favorite Genre of Music, so the app knows what to alert you to.
The Nokia Music Store India has quite a lot of Genres, as you can see.
After that, you can choose your favourite Artist or Band. You can choose not to select anything though, if you want to be informed of more bands in that Genre.
And after those three steps, the App loads up the latest tracks from that Genre or Artist, depending on how you’ve configured it.
You can also use the app to search the Music Store for a particular song or Artist, and download Tracks from the Nokia Music Store.
For example, a search for “Rihanna” throws up her latest songs, albums and related artists/songs.
The app also has a nice little Homescreen Widget that alerts you to the last 4 tracks according to your settings.
Here is a short video, to give you a better idea on how the Nokia Music Explorer App works :
All in all, the Nokia Music Explorer app does what it’s name says, and makes navigation the Nokia Music Store, a little more easier.
Now if Nokia would only get rid of the darn DRM on all the tracks in the Nokia Music Store, I might be tempted to actually use it more often.
If you have a Nokia S60v5 Touch Device (Like the N97 Mini, 5530 XM, etc) you can download the Nokia Music Explorer app from the Ovi Store.
