The Nokia Messaging team just posted to announce their new Social Messaging features.
Here’s what the blog post on BetaLabs had to say :
The Nokia Messaging team is pleased to announce the Social Messaging beta! This new client is the start of what will become the multi-community social networking client. As a part of Nokia Messaging, we expect operators to offer email, IM and in the future, mobile social networking all for one fixed low price. If you aren’t using the email or IM with Nokia Messaging, be sure to visit the email site and the E75 IM Beta to set up email and IM on your Nokia device. We continue to add support for more devices and communities in all parts of Nokia Messaging.

They’ve also added in a new feature for adding your actual location to your status update, letting your friends click and see where you are with Ovi Maps.
Here’s a short video introducing the new Social messaging Beta :
Some of the highlights:

Strangely it doesnt support S60V3 at the moment, and only supports the Nokia N97 and 6700 Classic. They have said more devices will be supported eventually, so we can hope. Although just supporting two devices is pretty silly.
Anywho, you can download the update from the Social Messaging Beta Page on BetaLabs.
And before you ask :
What’s the difference between the current Facebook client on my Nokia N97, the Ovi lifecasting widget and Nokia Messaging Social Messaging application?
The current Facebook experience is a client downloaded onto the phone and accessible through a homescreen widget. The experience is focused on consumption of Facebook community content. The Social Messaging beta will deliver a similar, though more integrated experience for Facebook as well as other social network communities through a single client as service extension of Nokia Messaging with one predictable and low price for email, IM and social messaging activity.
Publication is a core part of the social networking experience. Ovi by Nokia services provide a wealth of content ideal for uploading to social communities. The Ovi lifecasting widget allows consumers to post to their Facebook account directly from the homescreen and works great alongside our other social messaging offerings.
Have an N97 or a 6700 ? Have you tried out the Social Messaging Beta ? Do let us know your thoughts in the comments y’all !
