i did say that also.. look at the correction i added below. But u can't deny that theres a good amount of Noise Reduction applied to the final image by the phone and that does take away some detail. Anyways its a camera phone so i shouldn't be so picky, it will definitely get the job done for everyone. And Nokia if you're reading this “WE WANT XENON!!” ..

One method you missed is to increase the amount of light entering the camera. That's what we do with the N86. Most mobiles and digital cameras use only f/2.8 or smaller aperture, in the case of the N86 8MP we use f/2.4 so we have roughly 50% more light entering the camera. BTW according to our measurements our sensor is more sensitive in low light than most if not all mobile sensors.

The pictures theyve provided are too low res to tell the difference. The only way to brighten an image without flash is to 1. increase senitivity of the sensor or 2. increase shutter speed.

Option 2 isnt possible because that will bring in camera shake to the picture, and digital IS on these cameras is as good as it not being there.

So if the sensitivity i.e. ISO is increased a lot of noise will creep into pictures as the sensor is very very small and noise reduction will take away a lot of detail to the extent that the image will look fake.
These images will impress the layman, but you cant tell untill you have the full res images. From the 100% crops its clear that there is a lot of noise reduction artefact in the N86's image.

That being said the sensor and optics on the N86 are clearly superior to those on the N82 but Nokia really needs to take out a model with a Xenon flash. Till then there can be no viable successor to the N82.

(Sony has phones with LED AND Xenon!! Why can't Nokia do this or is Nokia too stuck up)
