YouTube App for Symbian gets v2.2.9 update, Touch Support

The guys over at AllAboutSymbian have found that the official YouTube application for Symbian has received an update to version 2.02.9.

This update finally works (properly) on Symbian S60 V5 touch devices, and brings a couple new features such as a new “Flag as inappropriate” menu function. There’s still no login/commenting though but hey, atleast we have touch support now, right ?

Youtube on S60 V5

To Download the update, head on over to m.YouTube.com from your Phone Browser. You should see a link at the bottom saying “Download the YouTube Application” if your Device is compatible. If you’re on an S60 V5 device (like the 5800, N97) and for some reason dont see a link, Gerrymoth has graciously put up the link to the installation file over on the NokiaAddict Download Page. Head to the bottom of the page and select “Direct Download“.

While S60 devices have native flash support and can playback full YouTube.com videos just fine, its nice to see Google supporting the OS with their periodic releases. Now if we could just have login and commenting support ;-)
