I was contacted over the weekend, by the makers of the myPhone application, who asked if I’d like to give their new “M1” application a try. Naturally, I was inquisitive to check it out.
M1 by Mmmooo.com is a new premium application for S60 V5 devices, that basically gives you the look and feel of the Google Android UI, on your Nokia. Ironic how this review comes the same day that Nokia has to go out and deny that its putting Android on upcoming devices.
Just like myPhone, M1 is also flash based and has the basic features you’d expect from a “Shell” application.
All the icons within the UI, link to the appropriate S60 app and you can scroll up and down the list.
You can also drag an application from the Menu, onto the “Android” homescreen.
Or if you wish, remove a shortcut from the Homescreen.
And just like Android, you can swipe left or right to check out the “other” areas of the HomeScreen.
The application is pretty much what you’d expect, if you’ve used myPhone before. Some shortcuts on the M1 menu have their own widgets, like Dialing, ScreenLock, etc :
It’s also worth nothing that the Battery, Time and Network Indicators at the top of the screen actually work properly.
If you’re really that serious about getting Android on your Nokia, M1 does what it says it does. It provides you with a nice Android UI that works pretty well, enough to wow your peers, and still allows you to revert back to your S60 V5 OS (since this is just a shell).
Here’s a short video showing you how the M1 Application works :
The crew at Mmmooo.com have done a pretty good job with the app, and no doubt it’ll be updated soon to include more features. You can trial or purchase ($4.99) the M1 Application at the Mmmooo.com Store. You can read more about the application, over on their blog post.
