The Samsung Omnia HD has been quite the popular device now, mostly thanks to its 8 Megapixel Camera and HD Quality Video Recording capabilities. However the “Omnia HD” runs on Symbian S60 V5 , unlike the previous “Omnia” model, which runs on Windows Mobile.

Because of this apparently, a spokesman at Samsung announced that in order to avoid confusion, the Omnia Brand will be kept explicitly for their Windows Mobile range, and that the Samsung Omnia HD will now be known as the “Samsung i890 HD“. It’s just a name change though, the features will remain the same.
Personally, this does make sense. I have a ton of friends who know the Omnia runs Windows Mobile and were confused to know that the Omnia “HD” would run Symbian. However, Samsung really should have thought of this earlier on. The Omnia HD has gotten a ton of press and some reviews already, and this late name change of the model can only serve to confuse their customers more. Remember, the device was previous known as the “Samsung Acme i890“.
What do you guys think ? Should they have stuck with the Omnia branding or was this name change a good idea ?
