Nokia Ovi Store to get Carrier Billing in Select Countries

Nokia’s new Ovi App store may just be a month or two away from launch, but details of the launch are still a little scarce.

Ovi Store Launch Plans

That’s why we were excited to hear an update on the launch details via the guys at Engadget. Apparently the latest news is that all devices launched in the USA, UK, Italy, Singapore, Ireland, Germany, Russia, Spain and Australia will get billing systems integrated with network operators in the region.

The rest of the world though, will have to do with Credit Card Billing unfortch.

There’s still no word on how this effects unlocked handsets in said regions though (Update :Check out Tzer’s comment on how they wouldnt be effected at all), but it’s pretty much a step in the right direction for Nokia’s Ovi Store, providing easy access and an easy way to purchase items from it.

"There’s still no word on how this effects unlocked handsets in said regions though, " It shouldn't affect unlocked handsets at all as the payment is made via the SIM card, just like payments for calls and texts (in fact the actual payment method may be premium rate text messages which is what Nokia Maps and N-Gage use). Also, the networks get a share of any network-based payment so it's in their interests to allow as many people as possible to use network billing. I've never had trouble using network billing on an unlocked phone.
