The Nokia E75 : First Impressions
Okay, so we’ve used the Nokia E75 for a whole day now (1pm yesterday to 1pm today). So far, I have to say, I am a little impressed.

What we liked :
- The phone has a really good weight to it.
- Build Quality is the typical Eseries excellence.
- Feels good in hand when its in CandyBar Formfactor.
- Call quality, as expected, is great.
- The Default Email Client is now a new version of Nokia Messaging, which has been tremendously improved over the Nokia Messaging I’ve downloaded and used on the N82. You now have more options and prettier graphics. (We’ll go into more detail on this in an upcoming post)
- The Slider is very snappy and works great. No wiggles or creaks.
- The Slide-Out QWERTY Keyboard has a huge WOW factor to it, and impressed a lot of people. Has a nice rubberized feel to it, which prevents you from sliding onto adjacent keys. Keys take getting used to, though.

- The screen is really bright, and very crisp. Copes pretty well with Direct Sunlight. Could have been a tad bigger but no complaints.
- Has newer FP2 Transitions (off by default). One transition I particularly liked, is when you switch an application from portrait to landscape mode, and the screen zooms out in portrait, turns over and zooms back in, in landscape mode. Very Cool.
- The Camera is Decent. Way better than the E71, and way better than I expected it would be. We’ll have a camera sample post up soon.
- Has power saving mode, which we first saw on the N85.
- Has Charging through USB port. We LOVE that.
- The E75′s improved Homescreen allows Ovi Contacts to be used as a Plugin, so it can be used along with other plugins all together in one Homescreen.

=================
Battery is good, inspite of the 1000mAh. Here’s what we had going on with the E75 :
- Screen Brightness at Maximum
- Email check though Wifi and GPRS every one hour.
- 20 minutes of Music
- 10 minutes of Bluetooth File Transfers
- 20 minutes of Network Calling
- 30 minutes of Installing Apps or Texting (where the screen was constantly on)
- 20 minutes of GPRS usage
- 10 minutes of GPS usage
- About 5 minutes of N-Gage Gaming
Inspite of all of this, there’s still 2 bars left.The main battery consumers are the screen on max brightness, and WiFi and GPS usage. I’m not quite sure if the E71 would have lasted longer under the same conditions, but I’m pretty impressed the E75 lasted this long. Most other phones would have give up faster.
=================
What we werent sure about :
- Uses the New Nokia Ovi Icons which we kinda like, but its hard to make out which icon is a folder on your first usage. The Menu setup is also a bit strange.

- When flat on a desk with the Slider opened, the top part of the device falls back when the Dpad is used
- Still a fingerprint magnet but not as bad as the E71 was. The Metal back though, catches fingerprints easily.
=================
What we didnt like :
- The Loudspeaker is pretty Quiet.
- N-Gage gaming is present, which is cool. What we dont like though, is that the N-Gage application only recognises the “Q” and “W” keys as “Gaming button A and B”. Bad move, when the QWERTY keyboard has so many keys to offer. Can be fixed in an update hopefully.
- The Memory Card Slot is really tight in our unit, and I have not been able to open it.
- When using in Landscape orientation, its easy to hit surrounding keys if you’re trying to use the Dpad. Not a problem in portrait mode.
- When using in Portrait mode, its again, easy to hit the adjacent keys when using the left or right selection keys. Takes getting used to, I guess.

- Our unit has a gap at one end of the device, when the slider’s closed and in Candybar mode. Worries me a bit. The slider is still solid though.

- No leather cover or Lanyard Cable like the E71 and E66‘s that we reviewed had. Would have been nice to have these, as they gave the Eseries their own fun “extras”.

So there you have it. Our first impressions after a day of usage. Let’s see if any of these change by the time we review the E75 later.
