Earlier today, Nokia announced that it has shipped 1 million 5800 XpressMusic smartphones till date. The 5800 has been on sale here in India for a while now, and has received a pretty good reception here (although nobody liked having the earpiece problem), so its not hard to believe Nokia’s statement.

I have to admit, I was a little dubious about the 5800 and whether it would be successful or not. Considering its Nokia’s first touchscreen S60 smartphone, this is a pretty huge breakthrough for Nokia. I’m really hoping that now, with over 1 million 5800s shipped, Nokia realizes the potential it has with the 5800, and issues a couple firmware updates to get that built in geo-tagging back in, and landscape mode (seen on the N97) for the homescreen. alongwith fixing a couple niggles here and there.
The people have spoken. There’s lots of lovin for the 5800. Now its just up to Nokia not to mess that all up.
