But first, a little rant.
I’ve been suffering with the earpiece problem on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic since the day I got it. Initially I did not notice it because I thought it might be a network problem or something else, but after a couple days, I figured something must be genuinely wrong with my 5800′s internal speaker (aka Earpiece). Basically the problem was, the volume of phone calls in the device goes from really low, to loud again, back and forth alot, which makes it frustrating to have a conversation with anyone. I called up my local Nokia Care Center, and they said that it was a common problem with the 5800, and that they could fix it but that I’d only get my handset back in “20 to 30 Days”.

So let me get this right : I buy Nokia’s first S60 touch device, I’m just getting used to the device which is less than a week old, and I come to know its defective and I have to sent it back to Nokia and wait for it to be replaced/fixed after 20-to-30 days ? What the heck am I supposed to do in the meantime ? Now I have tried and tested various Nokia phones before so I’m pretty used to this “early adopter syndrome“, but what about the person for whom this is his/her’s first Nokia device ? Would they not be downright angry at this ?
If this was a one-off case, I would not be this mad, but after looking around a bit, I’ve read a lot of complaints about the same problem, which has added yet another dent to my faith in Nokia Product Quality. How could they let this problem sneak past them ? Did they forget people still use their phones for calls too ? Yes, I was majorly annoyed.
Luckily thanks to this post over on DailyMobile.se, I was able to find and fix the problem. All the instructions are shown in the video below :

first of all you have to know that this could Void your phone Warranty. I don’t know, I couldn’t stand it so I’ve fixed it anyways lol.
note:- the last and most important part is not shown very clearly in the video because my camera’s focus can’t be adjusted so I can shoot the small parts I’m working on , so I’ll try my best explaining it in words (please note that English is not my first language,Arabic is so bear with me here =P). After removing the earpiece as it’s shown on the video , you will need to gently using a pretty thin tweezer or screwdriver to pull up (the two metal parts shown at the last pictures in the Video) pull them just a little bit till’ you see that there is a gap between them and the Earpiece( The Picture I’ve taken is after fixing the earpiece .so That is how the piece should look like after fixing it = ) its important that you do it gently because you might end up breaking it or detaching it from the earpiece which is what happened to me but thank god I managed to attach back to its place. Now you are done all you need to do is to put back the Earpiece back to its place ( the letters and numbers at the buttom of the earpiece should be facing upside down just like the letters and numbers that are printed on where the earpiece will be attached (earpiece slot? I dunno)
Goodluck and if you are having second thaughts you might as well take it to your local Nokia Care Center.
By the way this is my first Tutorial Video lol *that explains it =P
A word of warning, this might void your warranty, and you’re doing it at your own risk. We take NO responsibility for what you do to your phone. You might also want to check out the post on DailyMobile.se for more info.
All I know is, my 5800 works fine now, and all it took was a 3 minute do-it-yourself job vs a 20-to-30 day period without a phone.
Thanks for nothing, Nokia Care.
Bad Nokia ! Go to your room !

I’ve heard the same problems from the Nokia Dealership, they had called me because they were having some problems with an application and asked if I could help them… It’s indeed funny how the issues you are raising are being felt by a lot of people. Also this problem tends to occur also during music…. I hope you haven’t had that problem!
