Nokia Audiobooks just got an update today, after a really long time.
Here’s a portion of the post on Nokia BetaLabs , talking about the various improvements in this update :
One big practical improvement for new users of our audiobook client is the single SIS file we have created. So, now you do not have to know whether you phone is 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 or 99.99 version or whatever. You only have one SIS-file to download. However, it does not work on all models yet (like very old or touch phones) but now you only have to try one SIS file to see whether it works on your device. If it does not work, you should give us feedback about that.
For client UI, there are some small but nice improvements. You can now enable normal clock in UI view, so there is no need to do any task switching to go to idle screen to look what time it is. This has been sometimes irritating because at least I am using my phone also as a clock and have to check time many times when using audiobook client. Also sleep timer is improved and you can now set it for different time intervals. You also get status display showing in minutes, how much you have time left in sleep timer. Also if you have book with length more than 24 hours, the UI is now displaying the time correctly. At least in Finland, there are many good books with duration of 24 hours or even more. In English markets, unfortunately books are too often butchered to abridged versions of couple of hours, which should be capital crime.
For audiobook manager, there is probably even more fundamental improvements. It now includes simple library manager, in which you can see books in your PC and in phone and transfer and delete them between phone and PC. Also PC-SUITE data transfer is supported and this has the very nice implication that you can now use bluetooth data transfer without any cables. You can also delete wav-files after ripping to save disk space. Also the volume control is improved and you should be now able to generate audiobooks with better volume levels especially for books with high recording quality. Also Scandinavian letters are now supported in book names. This may also help with some other non-English languages even we have not been able to test that claim. Please give feedback if you have still problems with some special characters in book or chapter names.
Also for both the manager and client, we have been doing lots of listening ourselves and hopefully many small bugs have been ironed out. However, there may be some new ones and some existing one still living in the code, so please keep any bug reports coming back to us. We really appreciate that!.
You can download the update over on the Nokia Audiobooks page of Nokia BetaLabs.
