Over at medianama.com, they’re reporting that Nokia Sales have disclosed that the Nokia Music Store service will be launching in India around early 2009. This is great news considering how the Apple iTunes store still hasnt opened up shop here. If this works out, Nokia will be the best and largest source and seller of online legal music in India, which happens to be Nokia’s largest client base.
The Nokia Music Store allows anyone who have an N-series or Nokia phone to download legal music straight from the store to it. You only need to register your device. You can also download the music track to your PC and transfer it to your handset. The service is currently live in Finland, UK, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore, Australia, France, Sweden and Spain.
This service is also used with Nokia‘s “Comes with Music” handsets, where when you buy a certain Nokia handset, it comes with a license to download as many songs as you want, free from the Nokia Music Store, for a year.
I dont know how well a service like this would work in India, considering how the word “free” would probably scare away most Bollywood music producers and labels. But the fact that they’re opening up the Nokia Music Store to India, is a giant step for the Finnish Giant here. This just might turn out to be Nokia’s Smartest move here yet.Especially since their rivals, Motorola already have their Music store(read review on S60Blog.com) already setup and working in India.
