Remember the v30 firmware that came out for the N82 a couple weeks ago ? Well, after much hesitation, I finally “upgraded” to it yesterday night. Boy, I sure shouldn’t have. All I got was a whole bunch of new problems that were non-existent before.
Firstly, my “Switch” Application refuses to start now. A quick Google search later seems to reveal and it is a common bug in v30 that I’m now stuck with.
Second, my Camera now does not work. It loads the Camera application’s UI but the “Xenon Flash charging” icon keeps blinking and it doesnt actually display anything out of the UI. So I cant take pictures or videos or anything that has to do with the camera.
Third, I cant backup my phone data with PC Suite anymore. It tries to backup everything, but eventually fails at “Model Specific backup” and when I tried to restore that data (such as my contacts and messages) onto my other phone, PC Suite couldnt “find” any “data” in that Backup file, that PC Suite said it backed up my N82 onto. And this was the same situation on all 4 attempts I tried. I have yet to try backing up with Ovi Sync.
Lastly, the “Search: Internet and My Content” plugin on the active standby homescreen now takes TWO lines ! Wth? Why was there any need to change that ? It was perfectly legible before. And on a screen as small as the N82‘s … Honestly ?! It looks so incredibly awkward and ugly now. I just cant explain how annoying it is.
Now I’m not saying this will happen to you if you update your N82, but I am saying that it might. Whether you choose to upgrade your N82 to v30 is your choice, but I really didnt find any major changes after I upgraded.
I just handed my N82 over to Nokia’s Customer Care Center here in Udupi. They said the camera issue might be a “loose connection” and that it has happened to several other people before me. I hope thats the case and they dont have to format my phone, because I had noway of making a backup of my data because of my aforementioned problems. If that is the case, its just a coincidence that it happened alongwith my v30 firmware update. I’ll know the status of my N82, hopefully, by the end of the day.
Edit: I just got my N82 back from the service center. The Nokia tech guy said my camera problem was because my “battery was not charged enough”. Which doesnt make sense regarding how :
(a) my battery was fully charged and
(b) I didnt give the service center my battery with my N82. They usually give it back to you along with your memory card and sim, and just keep the handset.
lol so what the heck was he talking about ? I still dont know what the cause of the problem was or if it’ll come back ! Gah !
Oh and “Switch” still doesnt work but thats because I told them not to fiddle with the firmware.

Try taking a backup of only the contacts and messages... nothing else and see if it(Sync) is working.
try reinstalling the firmware. connect it now and re-update to v30. give it a shot..
@Aaron : Hehe oh how I hate a reset. Whats the use of UDP on the N82 if you have to format and reinstall everything after an update anyway, right ! lol. But yeah i'm going to try reupdating it to v30 later. Having massive computer troubles right now so its on hold.
